New Attractions Open on the Eastern Shores
An exciting infrastructure project is currently underway across the iSimangaliso Wetland Park with some 30 facilities being constructed or refurbished, to enhance both overnight and day visitor experience.
The new Mfazana bird hide overlooking the Mfazana pan and Mfabeni viewing deck (near Cape Vidal) on the Eastern Shores was opened on Tuesday 26 April. Other facilities scheduled to open in the forthcoming months include Mount Tabour (Mission Rocks) viewing decks and picnic site; a viewing deck at Lake Bhangazi and Catalina Bay picnic site with a viewing deck and braai facilities. The upgrading of the Cape Vidal camp site and day visitor ablutions begins in May so bookings will be restricted from 22 May to 12 June
This is the second phase of the Park’s upgrade programme for the Eastern Shores. In phase one, ninety odd kilometres of game drives were completed, including the Pan, Vlei, Dune & Grassland loops, each offering a different perspective of the Park. Where a challenging dirt road once wound its way between millions of alien pine trees, the new road leads visitors through a rehabilitated wonderland of several interlinking ecosystems affording an incredible array of experiences for those who take the time to explore.
Details of infrastructure project progress in the other sections of the Park including the Western Shores, uMkhuze and Sodwana Bay will be released in the forthcoming weeks.
